This is leading to a strong momentum as we improved occupancy levels to 30.4 per cent welcoming 46.3 million patrons during Q2,” Ajay Bijli, Managing Director, PVR INOX Ltd told businessline.

Leading multiplex chain, PVR INOX more than doubled its consolidated net profit to ₹263.1 crore in Q2 FY27 from ₹105 crore in the year-ago period on the back of strong box office collections. Consolidated revenue from operations rose 16.97 per cent to ₹2,105.1 crore which the company said was its “highest-quarterly revenue.”
“Q2 FY27 has been a landmark quarter as we achieved record quarterly and half-yearly revenue, EBITDA and PAT, supported by strong content, higher consumer spends and disciplined costs. Whether its Odyssey, which was playing in the premium IMAX format at high average ticket prices, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, India’s highest-grossing English film or the successful Hanuman Ansh, made at a very modest budget, there was a strong flow of content across Hollywood, Hindi and regional genres. Also, the consumers’ appetite to go out to watch movies is back in a very big way irrespective of whether its a big budget or a small budget, as long as the content resonates with them. This is leading to a strong momentum as we improved occupancy levels to 30.4 per cent welcoming 46.3 million patrons during Q2,” Ajay Bijli, Managing Director, PVR INOX Ltd told businessline.
Broaden engagement
“At the same time, our strategy to keep costs under control has been working well. We are not a passive brand and our focus has been to drive footfalls and broaden engagement through various initiatives. We have been focusing on expanding our F&B play through home delivery, Grab & Go counters, outdoor catering, while live events and sporting telecasts utilise screens outside peak film hours. We have also been proactive with our marketing campaigns and value offers,” Bijli explained.
He added that the company is on track to open about 90-100 screens in FY27 with about 24 screens opened in the first half on the capital-light models. “We have also started our SMART cinema initiative, offering an affordable capital-light format for Tier 3 and 4 markets, which has unlocked potential for nearly 300 new cities. That will take our growth trajectory to addition of 150-175 screens and maybe 200 screens next year,” Bijli added.
Responding to a query on expectations for Q3, he said, “October is expected to close better than the same period last year. With a strong content pipeline, Q3 is shaping very well. We have already sold 2 lakh advance tickets for Ramayana: Part One, slated to be released in November. So we had a big Dussehra weekend and expect to have a strong Diwali as well as Christmas weekends.”
With the company maintaining a net cash positive position after the recent buyback, the company’s board has also approved a new Capital Allocation and Dividend Distribution Policy focused on returning around 30 per cent of annual surplus cash flow through “dividends and/or buybacks.” “We will continue to prioritise growth investments in screens, premium formats and technology,” he added.
